CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 94-195
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF A
NEW TELEPHONE SYSTEM WITHOUT FULL UTILIZATION
OF CITY BID PROCEDURES
WHEREAS, the FY 1995 budget includes $26,000 for a new telephone system for
city hall; and
WHEREAS, the current system has become more expensive to maintain, expensive
to purchase replacement parts and is not compatible with the systems in the police and
fire departments; and
WHEREAS, GTE has offered a proposal to provide a new telephone system for
a total price of $24,448; and
WHEREAS, this new system will better meet the needs of the city and will offer
additional new features, such as voice mail, automated attendant and direct inward
dialing; and
WHEREAS, the new system is also compatible with the police and fire department
systems; and
WHEREAS, GTE is the only local provider of telephone services, and it is
important that the system's provider be available to provide service to the city during
emergencies; and
WHEREAS, it is, therefore, in the public interest to waive formal bid procedures
for the purchase of this telephone system;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to issue a purchase order to
GTE Alaska for the purchase of a new telephone system for a price not to exceed $26,000,
including a contingency in the amount of $1,552.
Section 2. The City Council finds it to be in the public interest to waive formal
bid procedures for the purchase of the above cited telephone system.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
