CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 95-04
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING SEWARD CITY CODE
SECTION 8.30.025.A, CONCERNING THE DUE DATE
FOR A BUSINESS LICENSE APPLICATION
WHEREAS, Seward City Code Section 8.30.025.A presently provides that the due
date for a renewal business license is January 31; and
WHEREAS, due to the recent adoption of the business license requirement, some
local businesses have failed to submit a timely business license renewal application
through innocent mistake; and
WHEREAS, allowing a grace period until May 1 to submit a business license
renewal application during the first full year of the business license program and
refunding the extra fee collected for late applications already collected in 1995 would be
appropriate and in the best interest of the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Seward City Code Section 8.30.025.A is amended to read as follows:
8.30.025 Application for a business license.
A. A person engaging in a business shall apply to the city clerk for a
business license on a form prescribed by the city no later than 30 days from the
effective date of this chapter or the date of commencement of the business and no
later than May 1, 1995, for a 1995 renewal license. Renewal license applications
must be filed no later than January 31 in each subsequent year. Notwithstanding
the preceding sentence, any business that will not be in operation in the city for
more than 30 consecutive days shall obtain a business license prior to commencing
operation.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect as of January 1, 1995.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
24th day of April, 1995.
