A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY Ii
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, URGING THE KENAI PENINSULA BORQUGH
TO EXPLORE ALL OPTIONS FOR INCLUSION OF SEWARD G~
HOSPITAL IN A HOSPITAL SERVICE AREA ,/

WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough currently provides h9Spital services for most
borough residents through the South Peninsula Hospital Service AreaADd the Central Peninsula
Hospital Service Area; and / /
WHEREAS, Seward General Hospital is the only hoSJ}iW within the borough which is
not under borough control; and .
WHEREAS, Seward General Hospital providesihealth care services to residents of
Seward and the East Peninsula as well as to visitors ~?Seward and the surrounding area; and

WHEREAS, small rural hospitals nationw)de now fmd it virtually impossible to survive
without governmental or other fmancial assis ; and
WHEREAS, the city of Seward is ding it increasingly difficult to provide the level
of tax support necessary to offset both e operational and capital needs of Seward General
Hospital; and
WHEREAS, it is approp . that the Kenai Peninsula Borough provide hospital services
to all of the residents of the bo gh; and
WHEREAS, it is th desire of the city of Seward to seek assistance from the borough
to meet the needs of Sew General Hospital to assure that residents of Seward and the East
Kenai Peninsula contin to receive quality hospital and other health care services;
FORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
, ALASKA, that:
Secti 1. The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly is hereby urged to explore all
roviding fInancial support to Seward General Hospital including:
Networking with other peninsula hospitals;
, 2. Inclusion of Seward and the East Peninsula in the Central Peninsula Hospital
Service Area; or

3. Assumption by the borough of areawide hospital powers.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 8th
day of August, 1994.
