RESOLUTION NO. 96-009
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, APPROVING AN AMENDMENT TO THE
CONTRACT WITH RURAL HEALTH FINANCIAL SERVICES FOR
PROVISION OF FISCAL REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATIONS
REGARDING THE FINANCES OF SEWARD GENERAL HOSPITAL
WHEREAS, in September, the City contracted with Rural Health Financial Services to
review the finances of the hospital and clinic and to make recommendations for stemming the
mounting losses; and
WHEREAS, this original contract has now been completed and the contractor has presented
his report to the City; and
WHEREAS, Interim Hospital Administrator Michael Yanez has begun implementing the
contractor's recommendations; and
WHEREAS, since Yanez has had no previous experience in managing a health care facility
and has been placed in his current position as a temporary measure to oversee hospital operations
until the facility can be transferred to a private operator, it is the desire of the City to provide
continued professional financial consulting services to assist Yanez during this interim period; and
WHEREAS, Rural Health Financial Services has agreed to provide on-going consulting
services including continued fiscal review, presentations to the City Council and recommendations
relating to the community education portion of the overall medical services plan; and
WHEREAS, funding for this proposed amendment to the Rural Health Financial Services
contract are available in the General Fund;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. Amendment No. 1 to the Rural Health Financial Services contract in an amount
not to exceed $3,588.00 to provide continued health care financial consulting services to the City
is hereby approved.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 22nd
day ofJanuary, 1996.
