CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 99-080
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO BRING FORTH A
RESOLUTION THAT GRANTS CITY EMPLOYEES A COST OF LIVING
ALLOW ANCE THAT IS DISTRIBUTED TO EMPLOYEES EQUALLY
WHEREAS, the cost ofliving has gone up each year and employees salaries are constantly
eroded due to the impact of inflation; and
WHEREAS, the administration recommended a 1 % cost of living allowance during the
Fiscal Year 1999 budget cycle but the council did not adopt the recommendation in the upcoming
budget; and
WHEREAS, the city council is supportive of a cost of living allowance where the increase
is shared equally among all employees; and
WHEREAS, it is the city council's desire to see that employees are given an equal hourly
increase in their wages; and
WHEREAS, the city council directs the administration to bring forth a r~solution which
shall accomplish the spirit of this resolution; and
WHEREAS, the employee with the lowest wage shall be given the same increase per hour
as the employee with the highest wage; and
WHEREAS, this wage increase shall apply to the same employees as the recently proposeq
cost of living allowance and will have a similar impact to the budget;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The administration is directed to follow the spirit of this resolution and present
a resolution which identifies the budgetary impact and feasibility of this resolution's proposal, to
include the estimated increase per hour on each employee's wage.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 14 of
June, 1999.
