RESOLUTION 99-083
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING PURCHASE OF LOT 6, BLOCK 1, GATEWAY
SUBDIVISION FROM ROGER SWENSON FOR DEVELOPMENT OF A
PUBLIC PLAYGROUND PARK
WHEREAS, on May 10, 1993, the Seward City Council adopted the Seward Parks and
Recreation Master Plan, which included a goal to "... designate additional park and recreation
areas" and specifically to "acquire land in the Gateway Subdivision / Jesse Lee area for a
playground..."; and
WHEREAS, the Seward Council adopted Resolution 94-153, accepting grant funds from
the State of Alaska, Capital Matching Projects Program for Gateway Subdivision Land Acquisition
and Park Construction; and
WHEREAS, the Seward City Council, through resolution 95-039, adopted the Municipal
Lands Management Plan which identified Lots 5,6, and/or 7 Block 1, Gateway Subdivision, for
acquisition for a neighborhood playground; and,
WHEREAS, in 1995, Lot 6, Block 1, Gateway Subdivision was valued at $25,000 in an
appraisal that included much of the city's lease and surplus lands as well as certain properties
identified for acquisition in approved city plans; and
WHEREAS, Roger Swenson has agreed to sell said lot to the City for $24,000; and,
WHEREAS, in accordance with SCC 7.05.125, a public hearing was held on June 28th on
the acquisition of Lot 6, Block 1, Gateway Subdivision;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to proceed with the acquisition of Lot 6, Block
1, Gateway Subdivision, in accordance with the purchase agreement, attached hereto and included
by reference, which outlines the essential terms and conditions of the sale.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect thirty (30) days after its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe city of Seward, Alaska, this day 28th
ofJune,1999.
