HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1996-072 , , , Sponsored by: Keil CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 96-072 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, IN SUPPORT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NON-MOTORIZED SPORT TRAIL SYSTEM AND ADJACENT SHOOTING RANGE FOR SUMMER TARGET PRACTICE AND WINTER BIATHLON RACES WHEREAS, the Seward Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) has had a strong volunteer membership in Seward for the past 20 years; and WHEREAS, SNSC has submitted a proposal to the State of Alaska for the development of a non-motorized multi-use sport trail system on the west side of the Seward Highway at Mile 12; and WHEREAS, the proposed development would include the construction of trails suitable for biathlon races and an adjacent shooting range which could be used for target practice in summer; installation of signs marking trail heads, directions, etc.; and eventual construction of a wooden shed to house equipment; and WHEREAS, volunteer labor will be supplied by SNSC to make most of the planned improvements, and SNSC has committed to providing full maintenance of the project area without assistance from the State; and WHEREAS, this project will provide recreational opportunities for area residents throughout the year; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The State of Alaska is hereby urged to approve the project for development of a trail system and associated facilities to be located on the west side of the Seward Highway at T2N- RlE-18, T2N-R1E-19, T2N-RI W-24, T2N-Rl W-25 as submitted by the Seward Nordic Ski Club. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe city of Seward, Alaska, this 10th day of June, 1996.
