CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 96-094
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, APPROVING THE PAYMENT OF
PREMIUMS TO PROVIDE HOSPITAL EXTENDED LIABILITY
INSURANCE COVERAGE AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS
WHEREAS, although operation of City-owned health care facilities in Seward have been
transferred to Providence Alaska Medical Center and there are no claims pending against these
facilities, it is in the public interest to provide Tail Policy Coverage for future claims which might
arise from past actions by hospital and/or clinic staff; and
WHEREAS, it is also in the public interest to provide a minimum of one year's Directors
and Officers Liability Coverage for members ofthe City Council and the Community Hospital Board
and hospital administrative staff; and
WHEREAS, the City has purchased its liability insurance coverage for the past several years
from Ohio Hospital Insurance Company (OHIe); and
WHEREAS, OHIC has quoted the City a very favorable rate to provide both the Tail Policy
Coverage and the Directors and Officers Liability coverage; and
WHEREAS, funds have not yet been appropriated to cover the cost of the premiums
associated with this insurance coverage;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The sum of 143,126.41 is hereby appropriated from the General Fund-Fund
Balance Account No. 101-0000-3070-0301 to Seward General Hospital.
Section 2. Seward General Hospital is hereby authorized to purchase Hospital Professional
and General Liability Insurance Extended Reporting Endorsement Coverage from Ohio Hospital
Insurance Company (premium amount - $138,326.41) and Directors and Officers Liability Insurance
Extended Reporting Endorsement Coverage from Aetna Casualty and Surety Company (premium
amount - $4,800).
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 22nd
day of July, 1996.
