CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 92-022
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
ADMINISTRATION FOR A GRANT TO EXTEND THE NORTH DOCK
AT THE SEWARD MARINE INDUSTRIAL CENTER
WHEREAS, the Economic Development Administration (EDA) of the U.S.
Department of Commerce provides public works grants to assist communities to create
jobs and increase economic activity; and
WHEREAS, the EDA has alerted the city that a short term potential exists for the
use of such grants for an acceptable project within the city of Seward; and
WHEREAS, the city has had a project in the capital development program that is
needed to make the attraction of a new sawmill operator a reality; and
WHEREAS, other users of city dock facilities could benefit from the provision of
additional docking facilities at the SMIC North Dock; and
WHEREAS, the Economic Development District Board of Directors of the Kenai
Peninsula Borough approved a resolution in support of the use of EDA funds for a SMIC
North Dock extension project on January 30,1992;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to sign and submit an application to
the EDA for One Million Dollars ($1,000,000) for funding to construct a 250 foot extension
of the North Dock at the Seward Marine Industrial Center.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized to accept said grant upon acceptable
conclusion of the application process.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this
10th day of February, 1992.
