Sponsored by: Schaefermeyer CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 92-033 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, SUPPORTING CONTINUED FEDERAL FUNDING OF THE PROPOSED ALASKA JOB CORPS CENTER IN PALMER, ALASKA WHEREAS, the federal Office of Management and Budget has recently announced its intent to redirect $6 Million from the proposed Alaska Job Corps Center to existing job corps programs; and WHEREAS, the state of Alaska, the Mat-Su Borough and the city of Palmer have contributed a total of $8 Million to facility construction and development, and $1.2 Million has been spent for architectural services; and WHEREAS, the development of an Alaska Job Corps Center would play an important role in the state's efforts to address Alaska's high rate of unemployment; and WHEREAS, as a result of the plan to redirect funding for this facility, Alaska will lose 80 direct new jobs as well as educational and training opportunities for more than 240 students annually; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The Office of Budget and Management is urged to re-instate funding for the proposed Alaska Job Corps Center in Palmer, Alaska. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 9th day of March, 1992.
