CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 92-035
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING A CONTRIBUTION TO
THE SEWARD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TOURISM ADVERTISING
FUND AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS
WHEREAS, tourism plays a major role in Seward's economy and affects nearly
every segment of the business community; and
WHEREAS, this influx of visitor dollars to the community results in significant
increases in sales tax revenues; and
WHEREAS, in 1991, the city contributed $25,000 to the Chamber of Commerce to
assist in its tourist promotion and advertising campaign; and
WHEREAS, the upswing in tourism experienced last season can be attributed, in
part, to the Chamber's advertising efforts; and
WHEREAS, because of Seward's location and scenic beauty, the potential for even
greater increases in tourism exists; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber has requested a $30,000 contribution from the city at this
time to assist in attracting visitors to Seward for the benefit of local businesses and the
community as a whole;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to award a grant in the amount
of $30,000 to the Seward Chamber of Commerce for the sole purpose of purchasing
advertising and for the development of tourist-oriented brochures and fliers.
Section 2. The Seward Chamber of Commerce shall provide to the city of Seward
an accounting of all expenditures of grant funds.
Section 3. The sum of $30,000 is hereby appropriated from the General Fund
Fund Balance Account No. 101-??oo-3070 to General Services Chamber of Commerce
Contributions Account No. 101-1189-5610.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
