RESOLUTION 99-098
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, REQUESTING THAT THE ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF FISH
AND GAME ENACT REGULATIONS TO PROHIBIT TRAPPING WITHIN
THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF SEWARD
WHEREAS, there are large tracts of undeveloped lands and numerous parks within the city
limits that are used by the public for hiking, exercise and running their dogs; and,
WHEREAS, the public expects that themselves, their children and their pets should be able
to walk and play within the city without fear of being caught in traps; and,
WHEREAS, a number of pet dogs have been inadvertently trapped by snares within the city.
Some died, others survived because the owners found them in time; and,
WHEREAS, having a state closure on trapping within the corporate limits of Seward would
be more effective because most people refer to state game regulations and maps rather than local
ordinances.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is requested to establish state
regulations to prohibit the trapping of animals within the corporate limits of the City of Seward.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe city of Seward, Alaska, this 12 day
ofJuly, 1999.
