HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd1998-001 I I I (ORDINANCE FAILED 1/26/98) Sponsored by: King Introduction Date: January 12 1998 Public Hearing Date: January 26. 1998 CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA ORDINANCE NO. 98-01 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING SEWARD CITY CODE SECTION 8.30.020 TO EXEMPT THE RENTAL OF ONE SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCE FROM THE REQUIREMENT FOR A BUSINESS LICENSE WHEREAS, the City Council established a city business license in order to assure that businesses operating within the City of Seward were collecting and remitting sales taxes and had obtained any necessary state and city licenses and permits; and WHEREAS, SCC Chapter 8.30 currently requires that all rental properties be treated as businesses; and WHEREAS, practically speaking, the only single-family rental units coming to the attention of the City and, therefore, required to comply with the business license ordinance are those owned by individuals who are already complying with the sales tax code; and WHEREAS, many individuals with single-family rentals are not engaged in the rental business but are renting their homes until they can be sold or are renting them seasonally when they are not in town; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA HEREBY ORDAINS that: Section 1. Section 8.30.020(A) is hereby amended to read as follows: 8.30.020 Exclusion from business license requirement. A.
