CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 93-021
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, IN SUPPORT OF THE DOC
CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS' ACADEMY AT SPRING
CREEK CORRECTIONAL CENTER (SCCC) IN SEWARD
WHEREAS, the city has received a request from Superintendent Larry Kincheloe
to hold the Department of Corrections Correctional Officers' Academy at SCCC this
spring; and
WHEREAS, a large number of Seward residents have applied for employment
with the Alaska Department of Corrections; and
WHEREAS, a number of Seward Police Department Correctional Officers would
also benefit from the training to be provided at the academy; and
WHEREAS, a corrections academy held in Seward would allow these persons to
remain with their families during the six weeks of this intensive training; and
WHEREAS, the prison could be used to teach hands-on inmate related skills and
management techniques; and
WHEREAS, A VTEC has agreed to provide a food service program, classroom space
and local motels to provide lodging; and
WHEREAS, persons attending these training sessions in Seward could become
familiar with the quality of life and benefits of residing in Seward;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. It is in the public interest to hold a Correctional Officers' Academy at
Spring Creek Correctional Center this spring that will provide training for thirty officers.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this
8th day of February, 1993.
