Sponsored by: Murphy CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 93-124 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, REFERRING ORDINANCE NO. 93-25 TO VOTERS AT A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, ON OCTOBER 5, 1993 WHEREAS, at its regular meeting of August 23,1993, the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, enacted Ordinance No. 93-25 which increased the city sales tax from three percent to four percent; and WHEREAS, on August 25, 1993, an Application for a Referendum Petition was filed with the Office of the City Clerk; and WHEREAS, on August 'lh, 1993, the City Clerk found the Application for Referendum Petition to be in proper order as required by Seward City Code Section 4.15.015; and WHEREAS, on August 'lh, 1993, a Referendum Petition was issued to the sponsors of said referendum in accordance with the requirements of Seward City Code Section 4.15.020; and WHEREAS, petition sponsors filed signed petitions with the City Clerk on September 3, 1993; and WHEREAS, the City Clerk certified the Petition as sufficient on September 6,1993, in accordance with Seward City Code Section 4.15.030; and WHEREAS, a regular election has been scheduled to be held on October 5, 1993; and WHEREAS, although it is too late to include a referendum proposition in the notice for the October 5th regular election, there is sufficient time to call a special election to be held in conjunction with the regular election; and WHEREAS, holding the two elections together will result in a substantial cost savings to the cityi and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: . . . CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 93-124 Section 1. Pursuant to Seward City Code Section 4.15.050, the following question shall be submitted to the qualified voters of the city at a special election to be conducted on October 5, 1993. An affirmative vote of a majority of those qualified electors voting is required to repeal the ordinance. PROPOSITION NO.1 Shall Ordinance No. 93-25 which increased the city sales tax to four percent be repealed? YES NO Section 2. A person may vote at this election who possesses the qualifications set forth in AS 15.05.010 and who has registered to vote pursuant to Chapter 7 of TiUe 15 of the Alaska Statutes and is qualified as set forth in Section 4.01.055 of the Seward City Code. The election shall be conducted in compliance with the procedures established in Title 4 of the Seward City Code. Section 3. Publication of this Resolution shall be made by posting a copy thereof on the City Hall bulletin board for a period of not less than 20 days prior to the election. In addition, copies of the ordinance to be referred shall be available at the City Clerk's Office for at least 20 days preceding the date of the election. Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 7th day of September, 1993.
