RESOLUTION 99-176
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPROPRIATE
$18,000 FROM THE GENERAL FUND FOR THE PURCHASE OF A USED
VEHICLE FROM ANCHORAGE CHRYSLER DODGE, TO BE USED AS A
SANDER FOR THE STREETS AND ROADS DEPARTMENT TO REPLACE
THE CITY'S 1980 3/4-TON DODGE PICK-UP AND TO APPROPRIATE
$5,000 FROM THE GENERAL FUND FOR A NEW STAINLESS STEEL
SAND-BOX TO BE MOUNTED IN THE NEW VEHICLE.
WHEREAS, unit #28, a 3/4 Ton, Dodge Pick-up, which has been used as a sander by the
city streets and roads crew for many years has broken and is not economically or practically
repairable; and
WHEREAS, the City Shop has located a used vehicle at Anchorage Chrysler Dodge for
approximately $18,000, which will meet the needs for a new sander; and
WHEREAS, the need for the sander is immediate and necessary for the public safety and
delays incident to competitive bidding is unreasonable in our current circumstances and the
requirement to go out to a public bid is exempt under section 6.10.120 of the city code; and
WHEREAS, a new stainless-steel sand-box for the new unit can be purchased for less than
$4,900 and can be mounted by the shop crew; and
WHEREAS, this unit should serve the City's sanding needs for many years;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to issue a purchase order not to exceed $18,000
to Anchorage Chrysler Dodge for the purchase of a 1997 Model Chevy 1 ton 4 x 4, to be used as a
sander by the Streets & Roads Department.
Section 2. The amount of $ 23,000 is appropriated from the General Fund Fund Balance,
Account No. 101-0000-3050 to Streets & Roads Equipment Account (Snow & Ice) 101-1314-5930
to purchase the vehicle and a new sand-box.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
