CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 89-081
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE ISSUANCE OF
A POSTAGE STAMP COMMEMORATING THE 50TH
ANNIVERSARY OF THE ALASKA HIGHWAY
WHEREAS, in 1992, citizens of Canada and the United States
will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Alaska Highway; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Highway provides a vital transportation
link between Alaska and the lower 48 states; and
WHEREAS, communities and other groups in both Canada and the
U. S. will join together to celebrate this half-century anniversary
of the construction of the Alaska Highway; and
WHEREAS, these same communities and groups have endorsed the
issuance of a postage stamp in both Canada and the United States
commemorating this landmark event;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The United States Postal Service and Canada Post
are urged to issue commemorative postage stamps in 1992 to honor
the construction of the Alaska Highway.
section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this loth day of July, 1989.
