CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 89-089
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, APPROVING A SHORT-TERM LEASE FOR
OPERATION OF A WILDLIFE RESCUE CENTER
WHEREAS, on April 26, 1989, the city entered into a short-
term lease agreement with VECO, Inc., for the purpose of operation
of a wildlife rescue center as a result of the March 24, 1989, oil
spill from the EXXON VALDEZ in Prince William Sound; and
WHEREAS, under the terms of that lease agreement the lease is
to expire on August 23, 1989; and
WHEREAS, Lessee has expressed a desire to extend the lease;
and
WHEREAS, under the code provisions of the city of Seward a
temporary lease may not be granted to exceed a 120 day term; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the public
interest to assist in mitigation of environmental damage caused by
the EXXON VALDEZ oil spill and in particular to assist in efforts
to rescue wildlife; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to waive requirement of
an appraisal of the property subject to this lease; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to enter into a lease
agreement in the form attached hereto as an exhibit;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The city manager is authorized to execute a lease
agreement in accordance with the provisions of that attached to
this resolution.
section 2. This resolution shall take effect thirty (30) days
following passage and posting.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, this 14th day of August, 1989.
