CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 89-094
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE PARTICIPATION
OF THE CITY OF SEWARD IN A JOINT APPLICATION
TO THE STATE OF ALASKA FOR AN OIL SPILL COMMUNITY
ASSISTANCE GRANT TO FUND A PROJECT TO IDENTIFY AND
QUANTIFY THE SOCIOECONOMIC EFFECTS OF THE EXXON VALDEZ
OIL SPILL ON AFFECTED MUNICIPALITIES
WHEREAS, the city of Seward has been impacted by the EXXON
VALDEZ oil spill of March 24, 1989; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska has funded the oil Spill
community Assistance Program to assist in mitigating the impacts
of the oil spill on affected municipalities; and
WHEREAS, the municipalities affected by the oil spill desire
to seek a grant from the state of Alaska for the purpose of funding
a project to identify and quantify the socioeconomic effects of the
oil spill on the municipalities;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
section 1. The city manager is authorized to negotiate and
execute any and all documents required to participate in a joint
application with other municipalities for the purpose of identify-
ing and quantifying the socioeconomic effects of the oil spill on
the municipalities.
Section 2. The city manager is authorized to negotiate and
execute any and all documents required for granting and managing
Oil Spill community Assistance grant funds on behalf of the city
of Seward.
section 3. The city manager is also authorized to execute any
subsequent amendments to the grant agreement to provide for changes
to the project within the scope of services or tasks, based upon
the needs of the project.
section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, this 14th day of August, 1989.
