Sponsored by: Schaefermever CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 91-032 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND AQUACULTURE CORPORATION WHEREAS, the Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation (PWSAC) contributes at least 70% of the annual commercial salmon harvest in Prince William Sound: and WHEREAS, a substantial number of salmon permit holders who fish the Sound are Seward residents: and WHEREAS, many of the more than 25 million salmon produced annually by PWSAC are processed in the city of Seward, providing jobs and tax revenue for the community: and WHEREAS, PWSAC contributes substantially to the fisheries in Prince william Sound, including chinooks, cohos, and sockeyes: and sport pinks WHEREAS, the PWSAC Board has approved a production plan which calls for increased and diversified production of salmon in the Sound, further stabilizing salmon supply and benefitting all users: and WHEREAS, PWSAC will continue to increase its production without negatively impacting the marine environment: and WHEREAS, PWSAC is seeking state funding for hatchery expan- sions to accommodate increased production: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: section 1. The City Council supports the overall mission of the Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation and its funding and production goals. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the city Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 25th day of March, 1991.
