Sponsored by: Schaefermever CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 91-044 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, SUPPORTING AN AMENDMENT TO PENDING LEGISLATION REGARDING REGULATION OF FIREARMS WHEREAS, the city of Seward is a home rule municipality having certain powers granted to it under authority of law to pass local ordinances and resolutions: and WHEREAS, the city exercises this power through the passage and codification of municipal laws, ordinances and resolutions: and WHEREAS, the City Council has the responsibility of protecting the community through the passage of laws, ordinances and regula- tions that affect public safety and the welfare of its citizens: and WHEREAS, Senate Joint Resolution No.1, as it now reads, would prevent the city of Seward from regulating firearms in any way: and WHEREAS, Senate Joint Resolution No.1, as it now reads, could lead to the overturning of current city Code provisions that regulate firearms: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The Alaska State Senate is hereby urged to amend Senate Joint Resolution No. 1 to preserve the right of municipali- ties to pass laws and ordinances regulating firearms for the protection of the public. section 2 This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
