CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 97-010
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, IN SUPPORT OF THE SEW ARD BAY VIEW CHARTER
SCHOOL APPLICATION
WHEREAS, the Alaska Legislature has enacted the Charter School Act of 1995; and
WHEREAS, the Charter School Act has allocated up to three charter schools within the
Kenai Peninsula Borough; and
WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Charter School Policy encourages
siting the schools in a geographically balanced manner with one school each in the Seward area, the
Homer area and the Kenai/Soldotna area; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward is particularly supportive of the proposed Bay View Charter
School in that it promises to:
~ Provide an educational opportunity for students who may thrive in smaller class settings;
~ Involve close cooperation and commitment among educators, parents and students; and
~ Promote learning of the arts, music, environment and hands-on experience in the field as well
as in the classroom;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward supports the Bay View Charter School application now
before the Kenai Peninsula School District Board and selection of Seward as a charter school site,
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption,
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 13th
day of January, 1997.
