CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 97-022
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, ENDORSING THE NEW PROJECTS FOR SUBMITTAL TO THE
STATE FOR INCLUSION IN THE STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION
IMPROVEMENT PLAN FOR 1998-2000
WHEREAS, the City has been given an opportunity to submit new projects for funding
under the Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP); and
WHEREAS, several major City projects are on the existing STIP, including harbor
expansion, Forest Acres north access road, North Dock extension, Exit Glacier Road improvements
and Seward Highway upgrades; and
WHEREAS, the City has identified three additional projects for submittal to the State and
inclusion in the revised STIP;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1, The following projects are hereby endorsed for submittal to the State of Alaska
for inclusion in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan for the period 1998 to 2000:
Harbor Pedestrian Path Design: $150,000 for engineering and design oflinkages in the
pedestrian/bike trail system to provide a safe pedestrian walkway from the Alaska
Railroad Dock to the harbor area and to the existing paved bike path and to provide
safe crossings across the highway and busy streets to access segmented portions of
the trail ways,
Seward Commuter: $146,500 for the purchase of two 18-passenger busses with wheelchair
lifts, four all-weather waiting stations and signage to operate a local transit system,
Seward Railcar Preservation: $50,000 project ($25,000 in ISTEA funds and $25,000 from
the Seward Chamber of Commerce) to renovate and rehabilitate the railcar visitors
center at Third and Jefferson.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption,
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 10th
day ofFebruary, 1997,
