CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 97-054
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, APPROVING THE DEMOLITION OF THE OLD US ARMY
DISPATCH BUILDING TO ALLOW PAID PARKING ADJACENT TO THE
SOUTH BREAKWATER AND ESTABLISHING A 30' X 30' SHORT-TERM
LEASE SITE FOR MONTHLY RENTAL TO TAMMY BUSH, DBA
SUMMER FUN SURREYS
WHEREAS, Donna Marek and Terry Lee, dba Alaskan Nibbles and Chips, failed to follow
through on their proposal to lease the parcel ofland adjacent to the south breakwater; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to demolish the existing building on the site to provide
additional paid parking space in the small boat harbor area; and
WHEREAS, Tammy Bush, dba Summer Fun Surreys, sublet a 30' x 30' portion of this
property during the 1996 summer season to operate her surrey and bike rental business; and
WHEREAS, Bush has requested a short-term lease to continue operations during the 1997
summer season; and
WHEREAS, demolition of the old dispatch building and accommodating the Bush request
will result in the addition of35 badly needed parking spaces and $400 per month of rental income
to the harbor;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to provide for the demolition of the old
U.S. Army dispatch building located adjacent to the south breakwater.
Section 2. The City Manager is further authorized to negotiate a short-term lease of a 30' x
30' portion of the subject property with Tammy Bush, dba Summer Fun Surreys, in accordance with
the provisions set forth in Seward City Code Section 7.05.410.
Section 3. The remainder of the site adjacent to the south breakwater identified as the old
Alaskan Nibbles and Chips lease site is hereby designated a paid parking area to be managed by
Randy McFarland under the conditions set forth in his parking management contract with the City.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
