CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO, 97-064
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF TWO 8-FOOT CULVERTS
FOR THE FISH DITCH OUTLET
WHEREAS, the 1995 flood identified several water flow problem areas in and around the
City; and
WHEREAS, the City experienced significant problems with the inflow and outflow of water
at the Lagoon along the Seward Highway; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Department of Transportation hydrologist has identified three culvert
locations needing upgrading to handle the water flow during high water events; and
WHEREAS, the State has agreed to replace the culverts on the Seward Highway (Third
Avenue) this summer when they complete the Mile 0 - 3.5 reconstruction; and
WHEREAS, replacement of the two 5-foot culverts crossing Fourth Avenue with two 8-foot
culverts will greatly increase the capacity of these outlets;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to purchase two 8-foot culverts at a total
price FOB Seward of not to exceed $10,653,00.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption,
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 12th day
of May, 1997.
