CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 97-156
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT TO THE
STATE OF ALASKA AN APPLICATION FOR A FEDERAL GRANT TO
PROMOTE THE SEWARD REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
WHEREAS, pursuant to the National Park Service Historic Preservation Act of 1966, certain
federal share matching grants for historic preservation projects are available to certified local
governments; and
WHEREAS, the Seward Historic Preservation Commission has completed such a federal
matching grant application for a project to: 1) research local historic properties for inclusion on the
Seward Register of Historic Places, 2) purchase and award plaques for approved properties, 3)
develop an instructional manual on how to complete the local register application, and 4) facilitate
a workshop to promote community involvement in the local register program; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the application prepared by the Historic
Preservation Commission and is aware of the obligations and responsibilities that will be incurred by
the City of Seward upon acceptance of the requested grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to submit an application to
the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, for a federal share matching grant project to
promote the Seward Register of Historic Places program.
Section 2. The Community Development Department is established as the agent for the City
of Seward for administration of this project.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe city of Seward, Alaska, this 22nd day
of September, 1997.
