CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 90-087
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, OPPOSING STATE BALLOT MEASURE NO. 1
WHEREAS, the Alaska Railroad is an essential link in Alaska's
transportation network; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Railroad is vital to the development and
shipment of our natural resources; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Railroad is recognized as a model for
other railroads around the nation in terms of its innovative
practices and its harmonious working relationship between manage-
ment and labor; and
WHEREAS, the passage of State Ballot Measure No. 1 on the
August Primary Ballot could seriously impair the railroad's ability
to be run as a profitable corporation, as it was mandated to be
under the legislation which created the Alaska Railroad Corpora-
tion;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The city of Seward formally opposes State Ballot
Measure No.1.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this 13th day of August, 1990.
