CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 90-095
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, COMMITTING CITY PROPERTIES AND
FUNDS TO THE SEWARD ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT
OF MARINE SCIENCE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE
PROPOSED ALASKA MARINE MAMMAL CENTER
WHEREAS, the Seward Association for the Advancement of Marine
Science (SAAMS) was created by a group of local citizens to pursue
the creation of an Alaska Marine Mammal Center (AMMC) in Seward,
Alaska; and
WHEREAS, SAAMS has requested the support of the city of Seward
to serve as a foundation for the group's efforts in fund raising,
fact finding and site development for the AMMC;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
section 1. Waterfront Tracts 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, are hereby
identified by the City Council as a site for future construction of
the Alaska Marine Mammal Center.
section 2. That portion of Waterfront Tract No.2 currently
under lease to Exxon as an animal rescue center 1S further
identified for immediate consideration and development for the
Alaska Marine Mammal Center subject to Code restrictions and lease
obligations.
section 3. Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) is hereby trans-
ferred from the General Fund Fund Balance Account No. 101-3070 into
a special revenue account designated as "Alaska Marine Mammal
Center" Account No. 175-1750-4680-0400 for use by SAAMS for trips,
staff support and preliminary design work and budgetary estimates
for the AMMC.
section 4. These funds are authorized for the purposes stated
in Section 3, provided that the encumbrance of the funds shall
occur only pursuant to city fiscal procedures regulated by the City
Code and City Council directive.
section 5. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this 27th day of August, 1990.
