HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1996-118 , , , Sponsored by: Garzini CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 96-118 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT WITH G.D.M., INC., TO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMMING AND CONCEPTUAL SITE AND BUILDING DESIGN FOR THE MUL TI-AGENCY FACILITY WHEREAS, in April 1996 the City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Parks Service, the U. S. Forest Service, the Seward Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Merchants Association to jointly provide a multi-agency facility in Seward; and WHEREAS, under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding, the City has agreed to provide a site for the project and to fund the professional programming and conceptual site and building design by an architect; and WHEREAS, the City has identified a site for the project at the intersection of Ballaine Boulevard and B Street; and WHEREAS, a request for proposals to provide architectural services was issued on July 19, 1996; and WHEREAS, of the ten firms responding to the RFP, five were chosen for in-depth interviews by a committee ofthe participating agencies; and WHEREAS, following the interviews, the selection committee unanimously agreed to request authorization to retain G.D.M., Inc., as the architectural firm for the project; and WHEREAS, funds for the architectural services were approved in the FY 1997 budget; and WHEREAS, in December the City Manager will be traveling to Washington, D. C. to seek federal funding for construction of the facility; and WHEREAS, it is important that the programming and design work be completed prior to that time to provide the necessary back-up materials to accompany the request for federal funding; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 96-118 Section 1. Because of the urgency to complete the programming and conceptual site and building design ofthe multi-agency facility, it is declared to be in the public interest add this item of business to the regular meeting agenda of September 9, 1996. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into a contract with G.D.M., Inc., to provide architectural services including professional programming and conceptual site and building design for the multi-agency facility for a contract price not to exceed $50,000. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 9th day of September, 1996.
