Sponsored by: Schaefermever CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 91-110 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, REAFFIRMING SUPPORT FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF EXIT GLACIER ROAD AND ENCOURAGING THE KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH TO ASSUME ROAD MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE CURRENT MILE 0 - 1.5 ALIGNMENT WHEREAS, as shown by the Exit Glacier visitor's Center 1991 visitation increase of 65% from 37,673 to 52,951 over 1990, the popularity of the Kenai Fjords National Park has steadily increased since its creation in 1981; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward by Resolution 90-145 dated November 26, 1990, expressed its support for the reconstruction of Exit Glacier Road and for the preferred alignment as outlined in the Exit Glacier Road Environmental Assessment; and WHEREAS, there is great concern by local residents that when the first mile and a half of the road is realigned that the existing alignment continue to be maintained; and WHEREAS, the fate of the funding revenues hinges upon the determination of future road maintenance responsibilities; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The City of Seward reaffirms its support of the Exit Glacier Road reconstruction as an important part of local and regional tourism economy. Section 2. The Kenai Peninsula Borough is encouraged to assume road maintenance responsibilities for the first mile and a half of the existing road alignment after the new road is constructed. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 9th day of September, 1991.
