Sponsored by: Schaefermeyer CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 91-135 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, APPROPRIATING $50,000 TO THE SEWARD ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF MARINE SCIENCE FOR PREPARATION OF PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS FOR THE PROPOSED ALASKA SEA LIFE CENTER WHEREAS, the Seward Association for the Advancement of Marine Science (SAAMS) has contracted with Cambridge Seven Associates, Inc., to develop a conceptual plan for the proposed Alaska Sea Life Center and to prepare promotional and project identity materials to aid SAAMS in seeking funding for construction of the facility; and WHEREAS, to date, this project has been funded principally from private contributions, with most of these contributions coming from within the community of Seward; and WHEREAS, in Fiscal Year 1991, the city of Seward contributed $10,000 to the project and the past City Council identified certain city property as a site for the facility; and WHEREAS, SAAMS is currently in need of approximately $50,000 to complete the printing of promotional materials; and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that private funding will be forthcoming to meet this need, but not in as timely a fashion as is needed to assure that the promotional materials are available for SAAMS to begin its lobbying effort to secure funding from oil spill settlement proceeds; and WHEREAS, it is further anticipated that any funds advanced for the printing of the promotional brochures will be repaid by SAAMS as private donations are received; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. It is in the public interest to advance $50,000.00 to SAAMS to cover the cost of providing promotional materials relative to the proposed Alaska Sea Life Center. Section 2. The sum of $50,000.00 is hereby appropriated from the General Fund-Fund Balance Account No. 101-3070 to General Services Contributions Account No. 101-1180-5610, such funds to be advanced to the Seward Association for the Advancement of Marine Science and repaid to the city as private contributions are received by SAAMS. -1- . .
