CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 96-123
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, APPROVING A CONTRACT FOR REPAIR
OF THE CITY HALL ROOF AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS
WHEREAS, in 1995, the City advertised for bids to replace the City Hall roof; and
WHEREAS, all bids received in response to this request for bids were rejected because they
exceeded the amount budgeted for the project; and
WHEREAS, in FY 1997, the City budgeted $30,000 for replacement of the roof, and
proposals for the project were solicited as required by the City Code; and
WHEREAS, the low bid for full replacement of the roof was received from Best Roofing
Technology, Inc., in the amount of$62,203; and
WHEREAS, under the building maintenance agreement between the State and the City, the
State will pay 41 % of the replacement cost of the roof, bringing the City's cost for the project as bid
to $36,699.77; and
WHEREAS, although the City's share of the bid amount exceeds the amount budgeted, it
is in the public interest to proceed with the project to prevent anticipated major water damage if
repairs are not made;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to enter into a contract with Best Roofing
Technology, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $62,203 to replace the City Hall roof
Section 2. The sum of $36,292 is hereby appropriated from the Capital Acquisition Fund
Account No. 103-0000-3071-308; the sum of $25,958 is appropriated from the State Revenues
Municipal Building Rent Account No. 308-0000-4620-0200; and the total sum of $62,250 is
appropriated to the City Hall Roof Capital Project Fund Account No. 308-3080-XXXX.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 23rd
day of September, 1996.
