CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 91-157
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE
OF CITY FUNDS FOR THE MAYOR'S PARTICIPATION
IN A BOROUGH TRADE MISSION TO JAPAN
WHEREAS, Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Donald Gilman is
planning a Trade Mission to Japan during the week of January 19,
1992; and
WHEREAS, representatives of the KPB Economic Development
District, the borough administration and the incorporated cities
within the borough have been invited to participate in the Trade
Mission; and
WHEREAS, the objectives of the Trade Mission include the
establishment of a Sister Borough/Prefecture relationship,
exploration of the potential for the export of fresh fish from the
Kenai Peninsula Borough to Northern Japan, establishment of direct
air routes from Alaska to Northern Japan, and development of a plan
to export round logs from the beetle kill areas of the peninsula to
Japan for home construction; and
WHEREAS, the city of Seward and its residents would benefit
from an expansion of trade between the borough and Japan; and
WHEREAS, there are sufficient funds in the Mayor/Council
travel budget to cover the projected costs of the Mayor's partici-
pation in the Trade Mission;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Mayor is authorized to represent the city of
Seward as a participant in the Kenai Peninsula Borough's upcoming
Trade Mission to Japan.
Section 2. The Council further authorizes the expenditure of
city travel funds not to exceed $3,000.00 to cover the cost of the
Mayor's participation in the Trade Mission.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this 23rd day of December, 1991.
