CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 98-015
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, APPROVING PAYMENT TO NEWBERY ALASKA, INC. FOR
EMERGENCY ELECTRICAL WORK PERFORMED ON THE
TRANSMISSION LINE
WHEREAS, the City had two recent needs to request assistance of Newbery Alaska, Inc.
in fixing electrical problems in the City of Seward; and
WHEREAS, the first electrical problem occurred in November of 1997 when the 69 KV
switch adjacent toCity Express burned causing a city-wide outage; and
WHEREAS, the City crew made temporary repairs to restore power and then the City
arranged for Newbery Alaska to bring a crew and equipment to Seward for a scheduled outage early
in December; and
WHEREAS, the cost from Newbery for this work was $13,757.38, and the total cost of this
work was $38,500.20 including generation and the City crew's time; and
WHEREAS, in January of 1998, a moving van struck and broke a 65 ft. transmission line
pole at mile 23; and
WHEREAS, Newbery Alaska again responded to the City's request for help with a line crew
and necessary equipment for replacing the pole; and
WHEREAS, the cost from Newbery for this work was $12,268.35 and the total cost ofthis
work was $38,000, all of which is billable to the insurance company of the truck which broke the
pole;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council approve Resolution No. 98-015, approving payment to
Newbery Alaska, Inc. a total of $26,025.73 for electrical work performed on the Seward
Transmission Line.
Section 2. Funding shall be from the following accounts: (1) 501-5300-5790 in the amount
of$l2,268.35, and (2) 208-2080-5390 in the amount of$13,757.38.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
