HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1994-002 Sponsored by Jones CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 94-002 A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING CITY CONCURRENCE TO A MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT (MOA) FOR NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACTSECTION 106 REVIEW OF THE INSTITUTE OF MARINE SCIENCE (IMS) INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (ALASKA SEA LIFE CENTER) WHEREAS, the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) review of the Alaska SeaLife Center (ASLC) project revealed the need to conduct a Section 106 compliance under the National Historic Preservation Act as part of the EIS; and WHEREAS, a Memorandum of Agreement has been prepared that outlines the responsibilities of each of the parties associated with the ASLC project to mitigate the adverse impacts of the project on adjacent historic resources; and WHEREAS, the city, as land owner, has been requested to concur to the historic mitigation process outlined in the MOA; and WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission has reviewed the Cultural Resources section of the EIS and the MOA and encourages careful consideration of the impact on local historic resources during the development of the ASLC project; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission that: Section 1. The City of Seward is encouraged to participate in the MOA, attached herein by reference, providing for National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 review of the Institute of Marine Science Infrastructure Improvement Project. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission this 21st day of September, 1994.
