CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 98-025
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, ACCEPTING A MUNICIPAL CAPITAL PROJECT MATCHING
GRANT AWARD FROM THE STATE OF ALASKA AND APPROPRIATING
THE CITY MATCHING REQUIREMENT FOR THE RENOVATION OF
HOBEN PARK
WHEREAS, Hoben Park has a long history within the Seward community, dating back to
before 1927 as a park developed by Harry Hoben; and
WHEREAS, when construction of the Alaska SeaLife Center began, the needed
improvements to the park became a higher priority; and
WHEREAS, a plan to refurbish the park has been prepared and approved by a Hoben Park
work-team and the Administration; and
WHEREAS, the plan also fits the guidelines ofthe Ad-Hoc Hoben Park Committee; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska has notified the City of Seward of a "community facilities
and equipment" grant in the amount of$33,283; and
WHEREAS, the City is required to match a local share of $6,246 for a grant total of
$39,529;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council approve Resolution No. 98-025, accepting a municipal capital
project matching grant award from the State of Alaska in the amount of $33,283 and authorizing the
City's matching requirement of$6,246 from the General Fund fund balance, account 101-0000-3050,
and appropriating $39,529 to the Hoben Park fund, account 81O-8100-5xxx, for the renovation of
Hoben Park.
Section 2. The City Council consents to Phase I of the Hoben Park Refurbish Plan and
directs the City Manager to pursue funding options for Phase II of the Hoben Park Refurbish Plan.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 23rd
day of March, 1998.
