HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1998-031 I I I Sponsored by: Gifford CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 98-031 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE ADMINISTRATION TO PROCEED WITH AN APPLICATION FOR A UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICUL TURE (USDA) FOREST SERVICE RURAL COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AND THE ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND REGIONAL AFFAIRS RURAL DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE INTERPRETIVE SIGNS AND WALKING TOURS MINI- GRANT WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service Rural Community Assistance Program and the Alaska Department of Community and Regional Affairs Rural Development Assistance have formed a partnership to provide funding and technical assistance to communities to enhance the overall quality of life for rural people; and WHEREAS, the above partnership has grant monies for up to $30,000 per community; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward has a grant application which proposes two separate interpretive walking tours and additional interpretive signs along the National Historic Iditarod Trail bike path; and WHEREAS, although the grant handbook suggests and recommends a local match of 50%, one is not required and, recognizing that the City of Seward does not have a General Fund fund balance which can support this type ofproject, no match is recommended; and WHEREAS, it is the hope of the City of Seward to introduce tourists and visitors to the diversity of Seward, and these low cost tours will focus on education and information; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The City Council approves Resolution 98-031, authorizing the Administration to proceed with the application for the USDA Forest Service Rural Community Assistance Program and the Alaska Department of Community and Regional Assistance Program and the Alaska Department of Community and Regional Affairs Rural Development Assistance interpretive signs and walking tours mini-grant. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe city of Seward, Alaska, this 13th day of April, 1998.
