CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 98-035
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF A CONTRACT TO
CHUGACH ENGINEERING, INC. TO INSTALL A RETAINING WALL AT
HOBEN PARK
WHEREAS, in Resolution 98-025, the City Council approved a budget and concept for the
reconstruction of Historic Hoben Park; and
WHEREAS, Chugach Engineering, Inc. is providing management and construction services
to renovate the Historic Railway Depot and has agreed to add the portion of the sidewalk and
retaining wall construction which is on City property (Hoben Park) to the section ofthe retaining
wall and sidewalk construction they are responsible for in front oftheir property; and
WHEREAS, the additional cost submitted by the contractor is $23,000 for the construction
of a new retaining wall and a six foot sidewalk, plus $3,000 for removal and disposal of the old wall,
including reasonable salvage ofthe iron work; and
WHEREAS, it is determined the public interest would be best served by not requiring public
bids for the project because safety considerations require immediate action;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council approves Resolution 98-035, authorizing the City Manager to
enter into a contract with Chugach Engineering, Inc. to extend their construction of a retaining wall
and a six foot sidewalk to include that portion adjacent to Hoben Park for a price not to exceed
$23,000 plus $3,000 for removal and disposal of the old wall.
Section 2. Funding for this project shall be from Account 81O-8100-5xxx.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 13th
day of April, 1998.
