RESOLUTION NO. 98-038
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A
PURCHASE AGREEMENT FOR A DIGGERlDERRICK FROM PACIFIC
UTILITY EQUIPMENT COMPANY FOR A PRICE NOT TO EXCEED
$228,629
WHEREAS, in September 1997 the City of Seward received bids for a Digger/Derrick
Truck for the Electric Department; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward currently has a 1983 Ford Digger/Derrick, D900 Altec,
which has been in need of replacement for several years but has been deferred in favor of other
projects which the Council deemed more important; and
WHEREAS, there is still a need for this vehicle replacement; and
WHEREAS, the anticipated budgeted price was $180,000, but the actual bid meeting the
specifications received from Pacific Utility Equipment Company was for $228,629; and
WHEREAS, the current digger/derrick truck is 15 years old, has high maintenance
requirements, is not capable of doing much of the work the City of Seward needs to do, and is
overdue for replacement; and
WHEREAS, ordering a new unit at this time will insure a delivery time of approximately
April, 1999; and
WHEREAS, financing for this vehicle will come from the Electric Department Retained
Earnings Account and the cost shared between the FY 98 and FY 99 budgets; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council approve Resolution 98-034, authorizing the City Manager to
enter into a contract to purchase a Digger/Derrick from Pacific Utility Equipment Company for a
price not to exceed $228,629, and financing is to be from the Electric Department Retained Eamings
Account 501-0000-3050.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 20th
day of April, 1998.
