RESOLUTION NO. 2001-07
A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMIS-
SION, GRANTING A SIX MONTH EXTENSION OF VARIANCE PERMIT
NO. 00-03, ISSUED TO SEWARD SHIP'S DRYDOCK, INC. TO EXCEED
THE MAXIMUM BUILDING HEIGHT ON LOT 1, BLOCK 7, FOURTH OF
JULY CREEK SUBDIVISION, SEWARD MARINE INDUSTRIAL CENTER
WHEREAS, on November 8, 2000 the Planning & Zoning Commission approved
Resolution No. 2000-03 which granted Seward Ship's Drydock, Inc. a variance to exceed the
maximum building height of 34 feet on Lot 1, Block 7, Fourth of July Creek Subdivision, Seward
Marine Industrial Center; and
WHEREAS, the Zoning Code (SCC ~ 15.10.325 F) stipulates that an approved variance
permit lapses six (6) months after approval if the variance for which the permit was issued has not
been implemented, however the Commission may grant a time extension not to exceed six months
upon finding that circumstances have not changed sufficiently since the date of initial permit
approval; and
WHEREAS, on April 5, 2001, the Community Development Office received a written
request from DJ Whitman, General Manager of Seward Ship's Drydock, Inc., for an extension
of the approved variance permit; and
WHEREAS, the extension request states that the final components of the roof structure
are scheduled for delivery from the manufacturer in late May, and the erectors are scheduled to
start construction of the roof structure on June 4, 2001;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning
Commission that:
Section 1. There is no indication that circumstances have changed sufficiently since the
variance was issued on November 8, 2000.
Section 2. Variance Permit No. 00-03, issued to Seward Ship's Drydock, Inc., is hereby
extended until November 18, 2001.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission this 2nd
day of May, 2001.
