RESOLUTION NO. 98-049
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, APPROVING AMENDMENT #9 TO THE KENT DAWSON
COMPANY, AMENDING CONTRACT DATES FROM A FISCAL YEAR TO
A CALENDAR YEAR AND DECREASING LOBBYING FEES
WHEREAS, the City of Seward has aggressively and successfully lobbied in Juneau for a
number ofprojects; and
WHEREAS, the grand opening of the SeaLife Center this week is just one of the City's
major accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, major accomplishments also include large-scale projects like the Seward
Marine Industrial Center and the Spring Creek Correctional Facility; and
WHEREAS, the City has employed Kent Dawson in support of these efforts in Juneau since
1980; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dawson has been a constant presence in Juneau representing and defending
the interests of Seward; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dawson's current contract ends June 30, 1998 and this contract comes
before the City Council now because of the outcome of mutually beneficial discussions that have
taken place between Mr. Dawson and the City Manager's office over the last six months; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dawson's current contract is for one year corresponding with the
City's fiscal calendar, in an amount of $70,000 plus expenses not-to-exceed $3,000; and
WHEREAS, the negotiated amendment changes the contract from a fiscal year to a calendar
year and decreases the contract amount from $70,000 to $60,000; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dawson's reputation commands respect and he has represented the City
well; and
WHEREAS, Seward has much to show from its 18-year relationship with Mr. Dawson; and
WHEREAS, the administration recommends the City Council approval of Amendment
Number 9 to the Kent Dawson Company contract; and
WHEREAS, this amendment is beneficial to both the City and Mr. Dawson;

RESOLUTION NO. 98-049
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council hereby approve Resolution 98-049, extending the lobbying
services contract with Kent Dawson Company, Inc. from July 1, 1998 to December 31, 1999 and
decreasing the contract amount from $70,000 to $60,000 per year.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 27th
day of April, 1998.
