RESOLUTION NO. 98-058
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA,
APPROVING A SPECIAL EVENTS PERMIT AND AUTHORIZING THE DISCHARGE
OF FIREWORKS BY THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DURING THE 1998 INDEPEND-
ENCE DAY CELEBRATION
WHEREAS, the City Code requires that individuals or groups hosting special events on city
property receive a special events permit authorized by resolution of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the City has traditionally allowed the Chamber of Commerce to issue vendor
permits for the sale of goods and solicitation of funds on city property during its annual Fourth of
July celebration; and
WHEREAS, Seward City Code 910.10.040 prohibits the discharge of fireworks in the City
unless specifically approved by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the City has traditionally allowed the Chamber of Commerce to provide a
fireworks display within the City in conjunction with its Fourth of July celebration;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Seward Chamber of Commerce is hereby authorized to issue permits to
vendors for the sale of goods and/or the solicitation of funds on city property in accordance with the
terms and conditions set forth in the special events permit attached and incorporated herein by
reference.
Section 2. As a part of its Fourth of July Celebration, the Seward Chamber of Commerce
is authorized to discharge fireworks within the city at a time and place which has received the prior
approval of the Acting City Fire Chief.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 26th
day of May, 1998.
