RESOLUTION NO. 98-075
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPROVE A
CHANGE ORDER TO INCREASE THE AUTHORIZED AMOUNT OF THE
CONTRACT FOR ALASKA ABATEMENT TO DEMOLISH THE OLD
SEWARD HOSPITAL BUILDING
WHEREAS, in March, 1998, Council approved Resolution 98-021 authorizing the City
Manager to enter into a contract with Alaska Abatement for the amount not-to-exceed $289,000 to
remove the old Hospital Building and level the site in accordance with our agreement with
Providence Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Alaska Abatement was given a notice-to-proceed on Apri129, 1998 and has
been working in the old Hospital since that date; and
WHEREAS, an environmental assessment conducted prior to the bidding of the project
identified 3450 lineal feet of asbestos wrapped piping; and
WHEREAS, Alaska Abatement has discovered an additional 1 007.5 lineal feet of asbestos
wrapped piping (hidden from view behind ceiling tiles which could not be removed at the time of
the environmental assessment) and has requested a change order in the amount of$10,336.95; and
WHEREAS, the quantities and the price per foot have been verified by our representative,
Mark Fineman of Locher Interests, Ltd.; and
WHEREAS, this is a legitimate addition to the contract which requires a "Change Order"
and an increase of 5 days in the progress schedule - both of which require Council Approval:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council hereby approves Resolution 98-075, authorizing the City
Manager to approve a change order in the amount of$10,336.95 to increase the authorized amount
of the contract for Alaska Abatement to demolish the old Hospital Building from $289,000.00 to
$299,336.95.
Section 2. Additional funding is to come from the General Account designated for Seward
General Hospital related expenses, 101-0000-3042-0001.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.

ofJune, 1998.
