RESOLUTION NO. 98-076
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE FUNDING OF A NEW VESSEL SIMULATOR
AT THE ALASKA VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL CENTER
WHEREAS, the Maritime Training Department of the Alaska Vocational Technical Center
(A VTEC) in Seward has enabled hundreds of Alaskan mariners to obtain the Masters, Mates, and
Radar Observer licenses over the last 16 years; and
WHEREAS, new international maritime regulations now require Alaskan mariners to prove
their competency on a modern vessel simulator; and
WHEREAS, the outdated equipment at A VTEC is not capable of meeting these new
requirements; and
WHEREAS, Alaskan mariners in the future will be forced to travel out of state at great
personal expense in order to upgrade and renew their licenses:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward Council hereby approves Resolution 98-076, supporting the
addition of a modern vessel simulator at the Alaska Vocational Technical Center which will enhance
the training of Alaskan mariners and lead to increased safety levels on Alaskan waters.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe city of Seward, Alaska, this 8th day
ofJune, 1998.
