CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 594
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING SECTION 17-4.11 OF THE SEWARD
CITY CODE REGARDING OVERTIME PAY FOR EMPLOYEES
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, HEREBY
ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Section 17-4.11(a) of the Seward City Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
(a) Time and one-half overtime. Overtime
hours paid at time and one-half shall be paid in
accordance with applicable provisions of the
[Alaska Wage and Hour Act] federal Fair Labor
Standards Act.
Employees who are requested to work overtime
[on a Saturday or evening] which is not in their
standard work week shall be paid at time and
one-half for all hours worked [on such Saturday or
evening], regardless of whether they have worked
less than forty hours in the week. Employees who
are requested to work on a holiday shall be paid
at time and one-half for all hours worked on such
holiday in addition to holiday pay under Section
17-11.1.
Section 2. Section 17-4.11(b) of the Seward City Code
is hereby repealed in its entirety.
Section 3. Section 17-4.11(c) of the Seward City Code
is hereby relettered as subsection (b) and is amended to
read as follows:
(b) Overtime pay for police officers [ ,
police chief] and police lieutenants. Police
officers and lieutenants, [and the police chief,]
when required to attend a court session while not
on regular duty, shall be entitled to overtime
pay. The [police chief and] police lieutenants
when required to work a double shift in the place
of a regular police officer who is sick, on vaca-
tion, etc., shall be entitled to overtime pay when
called out on an investigation while not on regu-
lar duty.

ORDINANCE NO. 594
Section 4. Sections 17-4.11(d) and 17-4.11(e) of the
Seward City Code are hereby relettered as subsections (c)
and (d) respectively.
Section 5. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10)
days following its enactment.
