HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1998-101 I I I TABLED: AUGUST 10, 1998 Sponsored by: Janke CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 98-101 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, SUBMITTING A PROPOSITION TO THE VOTERS AT THE OCTOBER 6,1998, REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION WHICH SHALL AMEND THE SEWARD CITY CHARTER, SECTION 6.2, TO REQUIRE THAT THE BUDGET BE PRESENTED TO THE COUNCIL DURING, OR PRIOR TO, THE THIRD WEEK OF THE SECOND TO THE LAST MONTH OF A FISCAL YEAR WHEREAS, the City Charter, Section 6.2, currently requires the City Manager to present the budget to the Council during or prior to the third week in May; and WHEREAS, ifthe revision to the Charter for the fiscal year is approved, the Seward Charter Section 6.2, budget statement of the City Manager, will also need to be revised to reflect the change in fiscal year; and WHEREAS, if the voters approve the proposed charter revision, an ordinance will be introduced to amend the code to require that the budget be presented to the Council during, or prior to, the third week of the second to the last month of a fiscal year; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The City Clerk is hereby directed to submit Proposition No.3 to the voters at the October 6, 1998, regular municipal election which would amend the Seward City Charter, Section 6.2, budget statement of the City Manager. Section 2. The question of the proposition shall be substantially in the following form: Proposition No.3 Shall the Seward City Charter 6.2, budget statement of the City Manager, be amended to require that the budget be presented to the Council during, or prior to, the third week of the second to the last month of a fiscal year? A "YES" vote approves the proposed amendment to Seward City Charter 6.2, budget statement of the City Manager. CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 98-101 A "NO" vote rejects the proposed amendment to the Seward City Charter 6.2, budget statement of the City Manager. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 10th day of August, 1998.
