CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 92-12
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING SEWARD CITY CODE
~ 8.10.015, SOLICITATION OF SALES OR FUNDS
ON PUBLIC PROPERTY
WHEREAS, Chapter 8.10 of the 'Seward City Code establishes rules and
regulations governing peddlers and vendors doing business on property owned or
controlled by the city; and
WHEREAS, the city has applied an "unmet need" standard to its review of
applications for permits for vending/peddling on city-owned property; and
WHEREAS, during special community events and occasions such as Fourth of
July, Salmon Derby and the Polar Bear Festival, the city has traditionally charged the
Chamber of Commerce with the responsibility and authority to issue such permits; and
WHEREAS, the city does not regulate vending on privately-owned property so
long as the property is within a zoning district which allows such activity;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Section 8.10.015 of the Seward City Code is hereby repealed and re-
enacted to read as follows:
8.10.015 Solicitation of sales or funds on city property.
A. Unless specifically authorized by resolution of the City Council,
solicitation of funds or sales on property owned or controlled by the city is
prohibited.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days following its enactment.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
22nd day of June, 1992.
