CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 94-01
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING CITY CODE ~ 3.30.055,
SUSPENSIONS WITHOUT PAY
WHEREAS, the current code provision authorizes department heads to execute
suspensions without pay; and
WHEREAS, the administration desires to add a level of protection to the City by
requiring the active involvement of the city manager in the process;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Section ~ 3.30.055, suspensions without pay, is hereby amended to read
as follows:
3.30.055 Sust1ensions without t1ay. The city manager or a
department head, with prior approval of the city manager, may suspend an
employee for cause for a period not to exceed thirty calendar days in any
calendar year. Employees against whom charges are preferred may, at the
discretion of the city manager or a department head, with prior approval of
the city manager, be suspended from duty pending final disposition of
charges. A suspension shall be recorded in writing and a personnel
evaluation report shall be completed for any suspended employee. Both
documents shall be reviewed with the employee immediately after preparation
if possible. Following this action, a copy shall be given to the employee and
a copy fonvarded immediately to the city manager (see also ~ 3.55.020).
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days following its enactment.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
10th day of January, 1994.
