RESOLUTION NO. 98-113
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, ACCEPTING THE RURAL COMMUNITY FIRE PROTECTION
GRANT AND APPROPRIATING THE GRANT FUNDS
WHEREAS, the Seward Fire Department has applied for and has been awarded a Rural
Community Fire Protection (RCFP) grant from the Department of Natural Resources, in the amount
of$5,000.00; and
WHEREAS, in order to receive this grant, the City will have to commit matching funds and
accept the grant before September 30, 1998; and
WHEREAS, the grant must be used for purchasing the equipment identified in the grant
application (laptop computer, floating pumps, chainsaws and portable radios), no single piece of
equipment can exceed $3,001.00; and
WHEREAS, these purchases will better equip the Seward Fire Department in maintaining
it's goal of providing maximum protection possible to the life and property of the citizens of Seward
and our commitment to the Department of Natural Resources (mutual aid agreement); and
WHEREAS, the Fire Department staffhas contacted numerous vendors for the various items
that are listed on the grand application and local vendors were given a five percent (5%) local
preference over outside vendors; and
WHEREAS, selection for the items was based on equipment specifications, overall price,
ability for upgrades and availability of equipment; and
WHEREAS, the staffhas identified $5,000.00 within the current budget that could be used
as part of the match;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Rural Community Fire Protection grant totaling $5,000 is hereby
ACCEPTED and the grant funds are appropriated from the RCFP grant revenue account number
851-0000-4680-0100 and $2300.00 shall be appropriated from the Fire Department's Small Tools
& Equipment account number 101-1220-5460, $2700.00 from the Volunteer's Small Tools &
Equipment account number 101-1221-5460, for a total amount of$lO,OOO.OO to the RCFP grant fund
expenditures account number 851-8510-xxxx.

Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the city of Seward
the 1998 RCFP Funds Condition Statement Acknowledgment, a copy of which is attached and
incorporated herein by reference.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 28th
day of September, 1998.
