CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 94-40
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING SEWARD CITY
CODE CHAPTER 8.20, VEHICLES FOR HIRE
WHEREAS, the City Code does not provide for the mandatory inspection of
vehicles for hire; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to require that vehicles for hire be inspected
prior to operation and following any major repairs or replacement; and
WHEREAS, the City Council previously approved Resolution No. 94-077,
establishing insurance policy limits for permits;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Section 8.20.025 A. is hereby amended by adding:
6. proof of inspection of the vehicle by the city certifying
that the vehicle meets city safety standards.
Section 2. Section 8.20.040 B. is hereby amended to read as follows:
B. Upon application to the city clerk and a demonstration of need,
and if the applicant has met the requirements set forth in 9 8.20.025 A,
operation of a substitute vehicle...
Section 3. Section 8.20.040 is hereby amended by adding a new subsection as
follows:
C. If vehicle is involved in an accident, said vehicle shall be re-
inspected in accordance with Section 8.20.025 A6. before operation continues.
Section 4. Section 8.20.045 A. is hereby amended to read as follows:
A Before any permit is issued, the applicant shall furnish evidence
of the existence of one or more policies of insurance, issued by an insurance
company satisfactory to the city, providing insurance coverage as required in
the current City Vehicle for Hire application, or as required by the State of

Alaska, whichever is greater. Policies shall stipulate that the insurer will
give written notice to the city at least thirty days prior to the cancellation,
expiration, lapse or other termination of the insurance coverage.
Section 5. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days following its enactment.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
24thth day of October, 1994.
